Born on the cusp of the death of western civilization, Nixil is a manifestation of chaos, rage, strength, and despair, channeled through the art, magick, delirium, and sonic violence of extreme music.
Their influences range from the weirder side of Mayhem to the atmospheric expansiveness of the French avant garde scene, twisted together through occult psychedelia with powerful, driving rhythms in the filthy spirit of crust punk and snaking riffs of moody, progressive melodies. With a sound and vision capturing the fervent essence of the classics while forging something strange and new, Nixil weaves and wanders their tortuous path in their own unique form of surrealist black metal.
Having made their presence known with their acclaimed 2021 independent debut, All Knots Untied, Nixil has steadily garnered a loyal following through extensive touring, bringing them a reputation for a fevered and intoxicating live show. Their 2023 Prosthetic Records release, From the Wound Spilled Forth Fire, saw them further hone their craft through aural and visual presentation both in the studio and on stage. Through the end of 2024, Nixil completed several regional tours including appearances at such acclaimed festivals as Maryland Deathfest, RPM Fest, and Mass Destruction Metal Fest, supported such illustrious acts as Belphegor, Sacramentum, Hulder, Uada, Immolation, and Nunslaughter, and capped off their most recent promotional cycle with a successful nearly month-long tour of the full US. Their third (as yet unnamed) album will be recorded in October of 2025 with J. Robbins of Magpie Cage Studio; ahead of an intended 2026 album release, they have a 10 day tour of the US NE into Canada scheduled for June of 2025, followed by a 12 day tour of the US SE in November of 2025.
Nixil is represented by Amos Rifkin of Heavy Talent for North American regional booking.

Invisible Oranges
“The album has exquisite dramatic timing, with melee verses following chanted bridges and swells of dueling guitars. In sum, this is "traditional" black metal done right and without the taint of noxious politics." - Colin Williams, Invisible Oranges
-
Distorted Sound Magazine
“This is genuinely one of those albums that could appeal to a broad range of black metal fans, and with any luck this is a trend that is only set to continue with whatever NIXIL have in store next. 9/10" - Danny Sanderson, Distorted Sound Magazine

PopMatters
“Nixil play a heady, cosmic-feeling take on traditional black metal, deconstructing and reassembling the genre’s usual tropes into something that can be best described as occult psychedelic journeys”. - Antonio Poscic, PopMatters "Best of August 2023”

The Soundboard
“Baltimore’s Nixil hit those notes on this warping second LP, also exploring gnosticism, adversarial forces, existential validation and sacred spaces for their own vibrant take on the genre’s creative form of dread.” - Elliot Burr, The Soundboard

”All in all, All Knots Untied is an astoundingly good album that any fan of progressive black metal should enjoy. It’s one of the strongest debuts I have heard in years. I wholeheartedly endorse this album, and I strongly recommend that you give it a shot. - 5/5 Self-Destroying Toilets”

No Clean Singing
“Nixil delivers slithering melodies backed by skull-busting drum strikes and ominous fanfares of sound veering into paroxysms of blasting, unhinged riff-fever and gut-punching bass tones...” Islander, No Clean Singing

Scream Blast Repeat
"Black metal is a crowded field, but Nixil find it easy to avoid cliché. Their music embraces a progressive soundscape that promises much and delivers more in abundance. Seldom does their art lose direction, and they’re quick to recover your attention when things threaten to die down. Nixil’s debut offering deserves thirty-six minutes of your time. - 7/10”
